Baroona, Waiheke Ferry

People dissembarking from the Waiheke ferry during the 1960s.. it took 1.5 hours to get there from Auckland on a calm day back then.

what a wonderful film evoking those far off days of summer. However, the ferry is the MURITAI, not the BAROONA

Its just that the old BAROONA is the ferry most recall I suppose. these ships have always been an interest of mine and once I had a book Waiheke Ferries of Auckland published as I have had a hobby researching these ferries over the years. My first job at 16 was as mate of the IRIS MOANA when she was almost brand new and in 1980 I was master in Drom's Navy, mostly on the Devonport run but we did do Waiheke with the BAROONA and KESTREL when the smaller boats couldnt cope. Anyway, that film of MURITAI at Matiatia is superb as is the one with Bert Subritzky's car ferry. I very much enjoyed seeing them, Thanks very much Brett

I want not concur on it. I assume warm-hearted post. Particularly the designation attracted me to study the sound story.

Hi David, yes, I have a copy of your book along with just about every Waiheke book. There is a group of us mostly from Enclosure Bay that have an interest in Waiheke history, we are currently trying to get as much of the old home movies and photos digitized.. when I get organized I'll post some on here and my Enclosure Bay blog. If your on the island pop up to the art gallery at the top of Oneroa and talk to Kim about the Enclosure Bay Dvd she has done , it has quite a bit of our old footage on in.
